Perseverance, Persistence and Perspiration.

No, triple P does not stand for Peter Peter Peter. It could but in this case, it is all about Perseverance, Persistence and Perspiration.

Once upon a time (1857), in the land of New Jersey, a township called Millburn was formed. Fast forward to the year 2009, a cool cafe opened on Main Street called Rock ‘n Joe. This became a new favourite hang out place for my friends and I and we have enjoyed a number of live musicians giving great performances.

A couple of months ago, Paul Gargiulo – from the Paul Gargiulo Band – performed there and unfortunately, it was a quiet night. A very quiet night. I was feeling rather nervous for the guy before he started. With all 7 or 8 people that were waiting in anticipation to see what he would, he took to the stage and started playing. And boy did he play!

He played and sang as though he were in an arena being cheered on by countless fans. His energy was infectious and the few people that were there, he touched with his music. I was wooing and clapping so loudly by the end of his set.

Perseverance: The continuous course of action even in the face of difficulty or with little or no prospect of success. This he did!

Persistence: Continue firmly or obstinately in an opinion or a course of action in spite of difficulty, opposition, or failure. Fail he did not do, but he trudged on.

Perspiration: The process of sweating. It may not have been physical but it could not have been emotionally and mentally unchallenging for him.

In the end his hard work payed off because although, he sold only one CD (needless to say, it was me who made the purchase), he gained himself a fan. Me.

“Totally consumed by the music, he pours every ounce of himself into each song.”
